Getting Prepared for Your New Baby Bird!

People always seem to ask, what will I need for my new bird? What is that? Where do I get it? So I desided to add this page to help you along with getting prepared to bring your new baby home. You will find a list and pictures of the things you will need as well as some extras that you might want to purchase to make your bird happy, and comfy! (Ok, maybe a bit spoiled too!)

1.)    You’ll need a proper sized cage, it’s very important to purchase the proper size cage. When you purchase your cage the dishes and perches should be included with it, if not, you'll need to purchase them.
*Happy Huts are great for your bird to cuddle with, or sleep in, but, if you should purchase one PLEASE remove all tags by cutting them as close to the material as possible to prevent any unwanted accidents.
(FYI - I have found that the cockatiels are the only ones I raise that don't use a Happy Hut)

2.)    Food, ask your breeder what to feed your new baby, your breeder should provide you with enough food for a few days. (also check the proper webpage in my site for information on what type of food to buy. And Please check out my do's and don't page where you'll find what Not to feed them.)

3.)    Mineral block

4.)    Cuttle bone

5.)    Vitamins

6.)    Water tube

7.)    Millet

8.)    A treat is always nice

9.)    Toys are too!

10.)Treat Cup for all those special fruits and veggies

*All these items can be purchased at your favorite pet store

*FYI -
I pull my babies at or around 2 weeks of age, I feed them Kaytee Exact formula, with a syringe. They start weaning about 4-5 weeks old, they are weaned onto California Golden Millet and mixture of Blue Seal Cockatiel Mix, Zupreem Natural Pellets, Zupreem Fruit Blend pellets, Fruits and Vegetables.. most seem to go for the seed rather than the birdie bread.. You don't have to feed your new baby the same type of food, any good cockatiel mix will do..But don't forget the fresh foods too!
